Hello My Dear Friends,

It’s been quite some time since I have paid everyone here a little visit.  Granted, I have been over at my old haunt at Trilobyte assisting them in trying to raise funds to do some redecorating of their own.  However,  it is Friday the 13th an I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to stop by and turn some heads.

I see that the team here has made some great strides forward since my last evaluation.  Although, I can’t but think that they aren’t getting into the SPIRIT of things lately.  Perhaps I should have left them something other than rat tartare to eat, and I was so certain that my scream cheese sandwiches were to DIE for.

That being said, I have been doing some soul searching, having lost mine long ago.  Perhaps you can help me, after all, you know I will give you what you deserve in return.  Pay the team a visit on Facebook and try to show them a spark of inspiration.  I can provide the electricity if needed.

My servants, I mean, friends at Attic Door Productions have been working on my house for a decade!  I didn’t know I had let it decay that much.  They could use an extra pair of hands or two, preferably with arms still attached, and some fresh blood in the house would do it some good.  So, if you or anyone you know has some skill in programming or 3D artistry, please drop the team a line.  After all, the more the merrier I say.  As I mentioned before, I will be sure to give them their just reward in the end.

Oh, look at the time!  It seems I have worn out my welcome a bit.  Well, time does fly, or perhaps, it stands still.  After all, it does feel like an eternity since I’ve had new guests come and visit.  We used to have such grand times, you know.  The panic, the screaming, the blood dripping from the walls.  Oh, I am salivating just thinking about it.

Well, I hope you shall all accept my invitation when the house is ready.

Until that day I remain your humble servant and host:

-Henry Stauf

Project Update 7/13/2011

Hello All,

We just wanted to take some time to cover some of the great developments going on behind the scenes at The 13th Doll.

First, we now have a total of 3 programmers working on several puzzles.  There are currently 9 puzzles that need to be completed, 10 if we decide not to drop one.  Progress on these puzzles is steady and there have been 2 or 3 completed in the past month or so.

Secondly, we have a few new 3D modellers as well and recently posted a couple of ads to see if we can get more.  The infamous kitchen, which has been modeled 3 times thus far, is currently being worked on yet again.  We also have some work going on renovating some of the other rooms in the Stauf Mansion and in a building across town…

Third, we may be approaching the point where we will be in position to start the filming of the FMV scenes in the near future.  While this isn’t a guarantee, we are moving in that direction.  The script has gone through at least 4 revisions in the past few months and we are finally at the point where we are nearly satisfied with it.  Perhaps another 1 or 2 revisions and we should be ready.

So really, we are making some great strides towards completion.  Many of the team members are really excited about the recent progress that has been made and the goal being in sight.  The current builds of the game are looking great, and keep getting better every week or so as more puzzles and renders are added.

It is truly an exciting time for us here and we can’t wait to be able to eventually release this to the Stauf fans of the world.

The End of an Era: Congratulations Bones

Hello All,

The time has come to announce something that has been known to The 13th Doll development team for quite some time, but has not been made known publicly.  The only reason we have waited so long is because we wanted to be able to give a lot of thought and time into this announcement.

Paul van der Meer, aka “Bones”, the lead 3D developer, creative designer and one of the original core group members who conceived of The 13th Doll, has officially retired from the project.  He has been part of the team since the beginning, 7 long years, and his creative work and presence will be missed.

For many of those involved with The 13th Doll, it is the end of an era.  While we are tempted to take this blow and lie down, we are still moving forward with the project.  In fact, part of why Bones is leaving is because after all of the years of effort, he is confident that the project is going to reach completion and that there is a good team of people currently striving to make this project reach completion.

Paul has been a part of the T7G/T11H community for a VERY long time.  His website, The Stauf Mansion Online, is still one of the most thorough and best designed websites on the Trilobyte game franchise.  His Stauf Mansion Line forum was one of the most active communities for The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour through the late 90s and early 2000s.

Bones has had the honor and privilege of getting to interview many of those involved in The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour projects.  He has spoken with Rob Landeros, George Sanger “The Fat Man”, and yes, even Stauf himself, Robert Hirschboeck.  He is truly the pinnacle of T7G fandom.

Bones has been with The 13th Doll project since the beginnings in 2004.  He assisted with the development of the concept, story and a good part of the dialog script.  Paul has acted as the lead 3D Modeler/developer and has also brought a lot of additional help and support to the project.  He has been a huge asset to the team, and has gone through everything from modelers/developers abandoning the project, servers crashing and other technical difficulties through the history of the project.  Bones is extremely talented, creative and is a great friend to all.

We don’t want people thinking that this is a depressing, sad announcement.  Rather, this is a celebration of Bones’s work and accomplishments over these past 7 years.  It is also to let people know that Bones would not have left the project unless he felt that his work and passion was left in good hands.  There have been some major accomplishments and additions to the game over the past weeks and we are truly hoping to see some spectacular things in the coming months.

Also, Bones/Paul isn’t going anywhere.  He is going to remain active on the forums, the Facebook group and wherever Stauf’s presence can be felt.  (Actually, it’s really kind of disturbing when you think about it that way…)  Bones will still be acting as a consultant but, solely in the capacity as a fan and game player.  He’ll continue to offer his creative suggestions, which will gladly be accepted.

So, here’s to Bones, for his talent, his service and his obsession with Stauf.  Without him, The 13th Doll would not be what it is or where it is.  He leaves with his head held high and with no grudges or regrets.  Bones also leaves with the full gratitude and support of everyone on The 13th Doll team.  Thank you for everything.

Oh, and Paul, just remember one thing, you may have escaped Stauf’s grasp for now, but, rest assured, he and his “humble” home will always be calling and waiting for you.  Stauf will always remember and will always be with you, in case you are “feeling lonely”.

200 Facebook Fans! + more

Hello All,

First off, we hit over 200 members in our Facebook group a day or two ago! Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. Those numbers are amazing and are growing a little every day. We had no idea that so many people were out there and willing to support us.

We have also gained 2 new developers so, that is going to help tremendously in terms of moving things forward.

OK, now for the serious part of this post. We’re currently working with Trilobyte to sort out an official License for the game, which is really great news.

One of our goals in creating this game was to prove that there was still life in the T7G franchise, and to convince a developer to make an OFFICIAL T7G3.  As you likely know, Trilobyte Games is back, and currently developing an official T7G3.  That’s great news for all of us fans, and I’d like to think that The 13th Doll project played a role in it.

Anyway, with the return of Trilobyte, comes the need to protect the intellectual property of the 7th Guest franchise.  The legal agreement is still being worked on, so nobody panic about any rumors, until a license is actually agreed upon and signed!

I do want to say that Trilobyte and Rob Landeros have been EXTREMELY gracious to us over the years – from providing advice on modeling techniques, to posting a link to us on his websites to working with us on the license!  If anyone remembers the fiasco that King’s Quest IX went through, you’ll understand – and that is one of the few fangames met with legal issues that had a positive outcome.

So, thanks to Rob Landeros, and everyone at Trilobyte.  Wish them luck with T7G3, and be thankful that they are allowing us to continue with our game!
